Have A (Big) Nice Day

The estranged newness in photogrammetry

Plastics appear to originate from nowhere. What could have traced their genealogy, the visual reminiscence of their material origin in nature, folds itself inside a desirable mask of “newness”, a necessary disguise for plastics to be consumed. Meanwhile plastics never go away. Once produced, this material joins the eternal symbiosis with us, appearing “new” in each of its reincarnations and getting ready for another round of consumption.

In order to delineate one of the innumerable cycles of this material, we rebuilt a classical plastic bag at NYC using printed clear film and zip ties. We critique its newness, through searching for an intermediate state between the new and the original, reconstruction and repair.
